Numerical Soup

There are many poetic things I could write about life, but day-to-day life is less like being a poet and more like being a plumber: you have to constantly fix things to keep the shit moving through the pipes so that it doesn’t pile up into a worse problem. So like most, I turn to the internet to figure out what to do about the next thing. But rather than experiencing enlightenment, I often end up in a rabbit hole of indecision. There is a lot of advice, much of it convincing, even more of it contradictory. Which advice should I follow in the context of my own life? No idea.

The name of this blog is Numerical Soup. This is where I take the messiness of the world, and sanity check it with the math. We can’t measure everything that’s important in terms of numbers, but when we can, it adds order to the chaos. You will have to decide for yourself how to weigh the things you can measure (i.e. the cost, the amount of time) with the things you can’t easily measure (i.e. your preferences, your values). The best I can do is write it down, and hope that the information helps you make decisions in the context of your own life.
